Agatha Christie, James Bond & Baby Stuff?

What an interesting week of reading I’ve had this week!  My week began with completing my reading of Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale.  Toward the end of the week, I started and finished my second Agatha Christie novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles, and I also began Ian Fleming’s Live and Let Die.

I enjoyed my reading of Casino Royale, but I didn’t nearly find it as entertaining as the movie.  There’s also something about Ian Fleming’s writing style that I can’t simply put my finger on.  There wasn’t a heck of a lot of depth to any of the characters, Bond in particular.  I’m noticing the same trend in Fleming’s second book Live and Let Die.  Both books have struck me as the type of books that you would most likely read on an airplane flight.

I also managed to complete my second Agatha Christie mystery, The Mysterious Affair at Styles.  I truly enjoyed this mystery, and I’ll post more thoughts about it here in a day or so.  But needless to say, I was kept on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading the mystery.  I truly didn’t figure out until the very end who the culprit was!

Finally, a note outside of my normal reading for the week.  This weekend has been a weekend full of work for me.  I spent most of yesterday painting the baby’s room, and my entire morning was dedicated to putting the baby’s crib together.  It only took me about three hours to put the crib together, but I managed to get it squared away without too much difficulty.  I just feel like I’ve gotten something major done this weekend to prepare for the baby, so hopefully I’ll be able to relax for a few days before the next thing!

What have you been reading this week?  What’s on tap for the week?

  1. So when is your wife due? Somehow I’ve missed that the last few posts (*facepalm*). Oh, and a belated congratulations.

I also enjoyed A Mysterious Affair At Styles and didn’t see it coming either, although others I know who read it said they saw it coming a mile away.

    • Thanks! My wife is due at the end of June! My wife feels like we’re very behind, I, of course, have a different opinion! 🙂

I had a feeling about the culprit, it was more along the lines of figuring out how it was done! Thanks for dropping by!

  2. Ah, congrats on finishing the books you were reading…and putting together the crib! An awesome task.

What a great time in your life.

Hope you have a great week, and here’s MY SUNDAY SALON POST

    • Thanks, Laurel! Yeah, the crib wasn’t too difficult to put together, I’m just glad I didn’t have to install each individual rail, like a buddy of mine did! Thanks for dropping by!

  3. Good for you (in completing books read and putting together the crib)! I wonder how you’d compare Fleming and Christie. I’ve read neither.

    Here’s my Sunday Salon: Peaceful.

  4. Baby!! 🙂 Pretty crib–and definitely make sure you take some time to relax before that babe gets here.

Lots of James Bond, huh? I just realized my library has the audio version of Casino Royale so I’m thinking about downloading it soon.

    • Thanks, Trish! I’m definitely trying to get some relaxing in before baby gets here! I enjoyed Casino Royale but not nearly as much as I did the movie. I’m actually enjoying Moonraker more than any of the other Bond books I’ve read in the last couple of weeks!
