Now Reading HMS Surprise

As I mentioned in my New Year’s post, this year is my year of reading without structure, just where my whims take me.  In that context, I felt a good early read this year would be a return to Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey-Maturin adventure series, that I discovered last year and have begun to enjoy.  My father has also read them, and he has been most kind to lend me his copies of the series to read, so thanks Dad!  My third book for the year is the third book of O’Brian’s Aubrey-Maturin series, H.M.S. Surprise.

I’ve been itching to get back on this adventure, I’m reading the paperback version and here’s a quick summary of the book:

Third in the series of Aubrey-Maturin adventures, this book is set among the strange sights and smells of the Indian subcontinent, and in the distant waters ploughed by the ships of the East India Company.  Aubrey is on the defensive, pitting wits and seamanship against an enemy enjoying overwhelming local superiority.  But somewhere in the Indian Ocean lies the prize that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams:  the ships sent by Napoleon to attack the China Fleet…

I’m truly looking forward to another great sea adventure that I’ve come to expect in this series.  If you’ve read H.M.S. Surprise or any of the other Aubrey-Maturin adventure books, I’d love to hear your overall opinion!
