A Productive Week & Day

Good Afternoon!

Today’s post is a bit on the later side due to a rather productive and physical morning I had.  This morning, I woke up bright and early and made my way to the Pentagon for this year’s Army Ten Miler.  I’m not quite sure what my official time is yet, but I’m relatively confident that I completed the race in less than 2 hours.  So it’s already been quite a productive day for me so far, and I’m looking forward to spending the rest of the afternoon by starting a new book and enjoying some time watching some football.

On the reading front, I managed to complete two books this week, the first was William Shirer’s The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and H.G. Wells War of the Worlds on my Kindle.  You can find my thoughts on The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich here.  I truly enjoyed my read of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and encourage anyone interested in learning about Nazi Germany to invest the time to read it.

I read War of the Worlds on my Kindle.  I downloaded it for free.  This book is the second that I’ve read on my Kindle since I got it in May.  I was concerned, that since it was a free download, about the quality of the formatting and if the complete story was there.  Thankfully, I worried over nothing.  The book was formatted quite well, and the entire story was there.  I simply couldn’t believe that I hadn’t read it earlier.  The story was a quick read and quite fascinating.  I enjoyed the read immensely, and read it as something to tie me over while my brother and sister get ready to read Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged with me.

I couldn’t believe, for a book written in 1898, how vivid Wells’ mind was in science fiction.  The descriptions of Martians, heat-rays, etc.  I found it truly remarkable.  I’d definitely recommend this classic science-fiction novel to everyone, it’s become one of my favorite sci-fi novels of all time.

What are you currently reading?  I hope everyone has a great week!

  1. I’m very glad to hear you loved War of the Worlds. It’s on my list of 1001 Children’s Books I plan to read someday.

  2. I always wonder about Kindle books, especially those that are “inexpensive.” I have actually found some with many formatting errors.

Congrats on your run…and enjoy your reads!

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

    • I definitely wonder, I downloaded a free copy of Walden’s Disobedience and on the first page, I saw quite a few formatting errors. I didn’t read any further beyond the first page. Rather disappointing!

Are formatting errors common in the paid books for Kindle? I didn’t notice any in Decision Points by President Bush, and I just downloaded A Game of Thrones four-pack and I haven’t noticed any there yet.
