Teaser Tuesday, Another Capital Tease!

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teaser this week comes from Karl Marx’s Capital, Volume I, page 726:

The capital-value was originally advanced in the form of money. The surplus-value, however, existed from the outset as the value of a definite portion of the gross product. if this gross product is sold, converted into money, the capital-value regains its original form. From this moment on, the capital-value and surplus-value are both sums of money, and their reconversion into capital takes place in precisely the same way.

  1. Interesting teaser, although not quite enough for me to read a book by Marx 😉

  2. I may need some more coffee before I try and parse that. Economics was not my favorite college class.

My teaser, from the book that inspired an Oscar-nominated movie, is here.

  3. I hope that you are enjoying your book. Here is my Teaser For Tuesday.
