Teaser Tuesday – Capital Volume I

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My teaser this week comes from Karl Marx’s Capital Volume I page 125:

The commodity, is, first of all, an external object, a thing through which its qualities satisfies human needs of whatever kind.  The nature of these needs, whether they arise, for example, from the stomach, or the imagination, makes no difference.  Nor does it matter here how the thing satisfies man’s need, whether directly as a means of subsistence, i.e. an object of consumption, or indirectly as a means of production.

Please feel free to share yours below!
